Lowland Leader Award

We are pleased to announce our 2017 Lowland Leader Award Training and Assessment Course and Expedition Skills Module dates. Please can we ask you to book early to avoid disappointment - thank you.

The Lowland Leader Award has established itself as the award for those taking groups out in lowland areas of the UK and benefits from Mountain Training's tried and tested training and assessment structure to give leaders a great foundation in what they do. Outlook Adventures runs both training and assessment courses for the Lowland Leader Award.

Lowland Leader Award training is a two day course where you will cover the full award syllabus and have plenty of opportunities to put skills into practice and ask questions of your instructor and course mates. We take your experience into account and encourage the sharing of ideas and skills to give you a toolbox to work with in a range of different situations.

Lowland Leader Award assessment is a further two day course following a consolidation period. You will find our assessors friendly and approachable - we aim to make the assessment process as relaxed as possible while seeing what we need to.

Courses are ideal for anyone who wishes to lead groups of people in lowland areas of the UK. The course is of particular relevance to those who lead:
•Local walking clubs or groups;
•Volunteers for different societies or organisations where walking or leading walks is part of what you do;
•Bronze DofE expedition groups;
•Schools looking to train volunteers to help oversee expedition activities and training in lowland areas;
•Gold DofE participants who have completed their DofE award and would like to progress to leading groups, training young people or as a first step into the outdoor industry.

The Expedition Skills Module is a bolt on module for Lowland Leader and Hill and Moorland Leader Award holders which looks at the additional skills necessary to lead others over multiple days with overnight camps. It also looks at the important (and often overlooked) skill of remote supervision - the key ingredient in safe and successful DofE expeditions and similar programmes that promote good learning outcomes. For more details on the Expeditions Skills Module, please see the Mountain Training website here . You can also download the module handbook from here .
